Appearance: Jake is tall and broad, with brown hair and eyes and ‘confident chin’. He has an air of confidence that tends to attract people and put them at ease.

Personality: Jake is laid-back for the most part, but stern and serious rather than silly. He’s easy to get along with and rarely looses his temper. He can be competitive and doesn’t like inaction, preferring to do something when presented with a problem. But he is not impulsive, and actually remains amazingly calm during a crisis, once described as ‘the kind of person everyone turns to when the building’s on fire.’ While not overly empathetic, he’s a good listener and considers what’s said and has solid tactical instincts that he knows to rely on. Following the war in his youth (and to great extent, during it) he can be withdrawn and paranoid, and he’s prone to depression and moody introspection.

History: Raised in a suburb in California, Jake had a normal, all-American style life with his parents and older brother. One Friday when he was 13 he took a short-cut home from the mall with his friends and they met a crash-landed alien, Prince Elfangor, who informed them that Earth was under silent attack from a parasitic race called Yeerks. Elfangor gave all the kids the power to morph before he died. Though Jake was hesitant at first, once he learned that his brother Tom was one of the ones infested by the Yeerks Jake lead his friends in a fight to stop the Yeerks long enough for the Andalites to send more help. They fought in various small battles that ended up being little more than speed bumps to the Yeerks for three years, when the leader of the invasion was given permission to proceed openly instead of covertly. Jake and the other Animorphs were ‘freed’ to act on a grander scale by the same action and they took the fight first to the Pool, the Yeerk’s base on Earth, and then with their allies launched an assault on the Pool Ship and Visser One himself, which ended in Visser One’s capture and the Yeerk’s surrender. Unfortunately, Tom and Jake’s cousin Rachel (a fellow Animorph) died in the battle.

After the war was over, Jake and the other surviving kids became famous. He was given just about every medal a civilian could receive, but he was burdened by guilt from his actions in the war and withdrew in on himself, sinking into depression. After several years he came partly out of it and took a job teaching morphing tactics to military men and women and finally moved out of his parents’ house.

Skills/Powers Jake is a natural leader and has the ability to read people and use them accordingly. He can also morph, change into any animal he has previously touched and acquired the DNA of. He has 39 usable morphs, including a tiger, wolf, falcon, skunk, dolphin, and many more.
